Bean Sidhe (pronounced “Banshee”) Celtic Band was organized in 1998 and is the only Celtic band in WNC that has continued to play together for that long. All of the musicians also play classical music and include two mental health workers, one preacher and one de themnmusician by trade. Part of the band has spent time in Ireland studying Celtic music first-hand.
The four members of Bean Sidhe Celtic band play a variety of instruments: Amanda Burts of Brasstown plays accordion and recorder; Karin Lyle of Waynesville plays harp and violin; David Russell of Bryson City plays guitar, bouzouki, tenor banjo, and mandolin; and Ralph Wright-Murphy provides the vocal and plays bohdran and guitar. Bean Sidhe has played for Strawberry Jam, the Library Series in both Waynesville and Bryson City, the Renaissance Fair in Asheville, John C. Campbell Folk School, Stecoah Valley, Brevard Community Center, Brasstown Community Center, Highland Games in Andrews, The Celtic Festival in Blowing Rock, Swain County Center for the Arts, and numerous regional festivals, weddings, parties, etc. The band has recorded one CD “Lilting Banshees”, which has sold well, and they are making plans for their next CD. |
